Troubleshooting

My image tracing is inaccurate

Improve traced outlines — missing parts, jagged edges, too many specks or wrong size — by adjusting the source image and the trace settings.

Parts missing or merged

  • Move Threshold: lower it to keep only the darkest areas, raise it to include lighter lines.
  • Switch on Invert for light artwork on a dark background.
  • Thin pencil lines disappear — darken them with a felt pen and scan or photograph again.

Jagged or wobbly edges

  • Use a larger, sharper image (at least 1000 px across the design).
  • Raise Simplify a little and switch on Smooth curves.
  • After tracing, Simplify 0.1 mm (Advanced mode) cleans up remaining nodes.

Too many specks

Raise Noise removal and Min. area. Paper texture, shadows and JPEG artefacts all become tiny islands otherwise; the check flags islands below the minimum detail size.

Wrong size

A picture has no scale. Set Output width to the real width before adding outlines, or resize the traced group afterwards.

Better source images

Photograph flat, straight on, in even light, with no shadows. Crop to the subject. For exact measurements of a flat object, the calibrated photo flow with the printed marker sheet is the right tool where it is enabled.
