Image to vector

Turn an image, logo or sketch into a cutting file

Decorative tracing turns the dark parts of a picture into closed outlines you can cut or engrave. You stay in control of the threshold, the noise removal and the final size.

How tracing works

  • The image is converted to grayscale and thresholded (automatic Otsu threshold or your own value, with an invert option).
  • Outlines are extracted with marching squares, simplified, and specks below a minimum area are dropped.
  • You set the output width; smoothing produces editable Bézier paths. Nothing is uploaded unless you keep the image as a reference layer.

Good inputs

  • High-contrast logos, line drawings, silhouettes, hand lettering scanned on white paper.
  • Photos of finished 3D objects, shaded images and very thin lines trace poorly — the preview shows exactly what will be cut.

Exact dimensions?

A picture carries no scale. If you need a dimensionally accurate copy of a flat template, use the calibrated capture flow with the printed marker sheet and a measured cross-check instead of plain tracing.

What we do not promise

  • Validation covers geometry (closed outlines, minimum detail, duplicate cut lines, fit on the sheet or page), not your machine: power, speed and blade settings stay with you — cut a test piece first.
  • A photo has no scale: traced artwork gets the width you type; dimensionally exact digitization needs the calibration-sheet flow.
  • CNC toolpaths and 3D printing are not generated; the 2D profile can be exported for your own CAM software.

Frequently asked

Which formats can I upload?

PNG, JPEG and WebP up to the configured size limit; images are downscaled to 1600 px on the long side for tracing.

Can I edit the traced outlines?

Yes: every outline is a path or polyline with a node editor, booleans and offsets. Convert, combine, add holes or text.

Will it cut on my Cricut?

Export as Cricut / Silhouette: the SVG keeps its size and the cut layer; weed-ability depends on detail size, which the check flags below 1.5 mm.
