Using alignment and snapping

Snapping

Open Create and find Snapping & grid:

• Show grid — draws the grid on the canvas.
• Snap to grid — positions and sizes snap to the Grid size in millimetres.
• Snap to objects — edges and centres snap to other objects.

Hold Alt while dragging to ignore snapping for one move.

Align and distribute

Select two or more objects. The Properties panel shows alignment buttons:

• Align left, Align centre (horizontal), Align right
• Align top, Align middle (vertical), Align bottom
• Distribute horizontally and Distribute vertically — equal gaps between three or more objects.

Alignment uses the selection's outer bounds.

Centre on the canvas

To centre one object on the canvas, set X (centre) to half the canvas width and Y (centre) to half the canvas height. The canvas size is shown in the status bar.
