Fixing a custom assembly that will not build

What the checks on an original multi-part design mean (overlapping panels, joints that cannot form, cut-outs too close to a joint) and how to fix each one.

A custom assembly is built from its plan: bodies, dividers, shelves, drawers, lids, roofs, panels, cut-outs and engraving. The engine cuts every joint where two panels meet. When something cannot be made, it says which part and why instead of guessing.

Message What it means Fix
Panels overlap Two panels lie in the same plane and occupy the same space, often two boxes placed into each other Move one body, or stack it on top of the other
Goes only part way into another panel A joint needs one panel to pass through the other's whole thickness Ask the assistant to extend the panel to the outside face, or stop it at the inside face
Crossing panels need an edge Two dividers cross in the middle and neither reaches an edge, so they cannot slot together Make crossing dividers the same height
Panel falls apart / cut away Other panels cross it so often that it splits into pieces Fewer compartments, or a larger body
Cut-out too close A window, hole or pull is closer than 3 mm (or the sheet thickness) to an edge or a joint Make it smaller or move it towards the middle of the panel
Text runs past the edge Engraved text is wider than its panel Shorter text or a smaller size
Panel not connected A panel does not touch anything; it would be loose Move it to meet the panel it belongs to, or glue it by hand
Drawers need an open front Drawers slide out of the front, so the body cannot have a front wall The assistant opens the front automatically when you ask for drawers
Too small / out of range A body, shelf gap, drawer or compartment is too small for the sheet thickness Make it larger or use fewer compartments
Plan or expression errors A measurement refers to something that does not exist, or two measurements depend on each other in a circle Ask the assistant to fix it, or change the measurement directly
Thickness not supported Finger and slot joints need 1.5โ€“12 mm sheet Use 3โ€“6 mm plywood, MDF or acrylic

Fit is not guaranteed by a valid design

A design that passes every check fits together on screen. Whether it fits on your machine depends on the real thickness of your sheet and your cutter's kerf. Measure the sheet, enter the measured thickness, and cut one corner joint as a test before the whole project.
