How to fix open paths and contours

An open contour is a cut line whose ends do not meet, so no part can be cut out. Find open paths and close them with Repair paths or the Closed switch.

A shape on a cut layer must be closed — its end meets its start — so the cutter separates a part from the sheet. An open line on a cut layer just slices the material.

Fix it

  1. Open Check & output. The issue names the open path; click it to select.
  2. If the gap is tiny (typical for imported files), choose Repair paths: close gaps ≤ 0.3 mm. Touching segments are joined into closed outlines.
  3. For a polyline or path that should be closed, switch on Closed in Properties.
  4. If the line is meant to stay open (a fold, a decoration), move it to the Score or Engrave layer instead.

Imported files

Drawing programs often export outlines as separate strokes. DIYCutLab chains strokes that meet end to end automatically on import; larger gaps need Repair paths or a manual fix with Edit nodes (N).

Tolerances

Automatic chaining joins endpoints closer than 0.05 mm. Repair paths closes gaps up to 0.3 mm. Anything larger is a real gap and is left for you to decide.
