Outside dimensions stay fixed when you change thickness; the inside shrinks or grows and every joint is rebuilt. This tutorial shows that cause and effect on a real organizer.

What you will learn

  • The difference between outside and inside dimensions.
  • How nominal and measured thickness differ.
  • Where the engine records what it assumed.

Going further

Try two different thickness values and compare the assumptions. Then read setting clearances to tune the fit.

Steps

The same steps appear in the studio, where each one is checked against your design.

  1. 1

    Select the organizer

Click the organizer on the canvas. Its outside dimensions and options appear in Properties.

  2. 2

    Set the outside size

Change Width (outside) to fit your drawer or desk. Dimensions are outside sizes; the inside size is in the assumptions.

  3. 3

    Enter the measured thickness

Press Esc. Measure your sheet in three places with calipers and type the average in Material → Measured.

  4. 4

    Compare the inside size

Open Check & output and read the assumptions under the price. A thicker sheet makes the inside smaller and the divider slots wider.

  5. 5

    Review before cutting

Open Generate files → Preview and check that every divider and wall is there. Then cut one wall and one divider to test the slot fit.

Final result

Compiled by the same engine as the studio: 8 parts on 1 sheet. Red is cut, black is engraved.
