Understanding real-world dimensions

Everything in the studio is measured in real millimetres. Learn what the numbers mean on the finished piece and how to switch to inches.

A 100 mm square in the studio is a 100 mm square in the SVG, the DXF and the printed PDF. There is no screen resolution or "pixels per inch" to worry about.

What the numbers measure

  • Width and Height — the outer size of the object's bounding box.
  • Diameter — across a circle.
  • Cap height — the height of a capital letter, not the font's point size.
  • Component dimensions — outside dimensions of the finished box or organizer. The inside size is listed in the component's assumptions.

Inches

With nothing selected, set Canvas → Units to Inches. Fields then show inches; everything is still stored in millimetres, so switching back loses nothing.

Check after export

Every package includes a 1:1 PDF with a 100 mm check ruler and a part list with dimensions. Measure one part in your machine software after importing — if it is not the size you designed, the import scaled it. See SVG imports at the wrong size.
