Getting started

Import an SVG or DXF file

Bring existing vector artwork into the studio as editable outlines on the right layers, confirm its real size and see what could not be imported.

Imported shapes become ordinary studio objects: you can move, resize, combine and validate them like anything you drew.

Steps

  1. Open Import in the left rail and stay on the SVG / DXF tab.
  2. Choose Choose SVG (or Choose SVG or DXF where DXF import is enabled) and pick the file.
  3. Read the import report: number of shapes, detected units and anything that was skipped.
  4. If the file has no reliable physical size, enter the real overall width and choose Set scale.
  5. Choose Add to design as editable outlines.

Layers

Shapes are placed on layers by the file's own layer or group names when they match an operation such as CUT_OUTER or ENGRAVE_VECTOR. If the whole file is drawn in one colour with no distinction, closed shapes go to the Cut layer and open strokes keep their original operation. Change any object's layer in Properties → Layer.

Safety and limits

Files are sanitised: scripts, external references and embedded fonts are removed. Text in an SVG must already be converted to outlines (paths) in your drawing program.

Supported DXF entities

LINE, LWPOLYLINE, POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, ELLIPSE and SPLINE (approximated within 0.05 mm). Blocks (INSERT), hatches, dimensions and text are reported as skipped. Units come from $INSUNITS; unitless files ask for the real width.
