Troubleshooting

My imported DXF has missing elements

Why some DXF content does not appear after import — blocks, hatches, text, dimensions or unknown units — and how to convert the file so it imports completely.

The import report lists everything that was skipped. The usual causes:

Report says Meaning Fix in your CAD program
Block reference skipped Geometry inside a block (INSERT) Explode the blocks, then save again
Unsupported entity: HATCH, TEXT, MTEXT, DIMENSION Fills, text and dimensions are not cut geometry Convert text to outlines; delete dimensions and hatches
Spline approximated Curves converted to small segments Nothing to do; accuracy is within 0.05 mm
Unknown units $INSUNITS missing or unitless Enter the real overall width when asked
No geometry found Only unsupported entities Explode and convert, or export as SVG

Supported entities

LINE, LWPOLYLINE, POLYLINE, CIRCLE, ARC, ELLIPSE and SPLINE. Open chains of lines that meet end to end are joined into closed outlines automatically.

Also check

  • Layers that were frozen or off in your CAD program may not be exported at all.
  • 3D entities and paper-space content are ignored; draw in model space, flat.
  • Save as AutoCAD 2000/R2000 DXF or later for the best compatibility.
