Adding shapes and text

Draw rectangles, circles, polygons, lines, holes, slots and text, and set their exact size and layer.

Draw with a tool

Open Create and pick a tool, or press its key: Rectangle (R), Circle (C), Ellipse (E), Polygon (G), Line (L), Polyline (Y), Pen / Bézier (P), Text (T), Hole (O) and Slot (S). Drag on the canvas to draw. Hold Shift for perfect squares and circles.

Add with one click

Quick add places a ready-sized Rectangle, Rounded rectangle, Circle, Hexagon, Text or Line in the middle of the canvas. Then type exact values in Properties.

Text

Select a text object to edit:

  • Text — the words. Line breaks are kept.
  • Font — one of the embedded, licensed fonts. Text is converted to exact outlines, so nothing depends on fonts being installed on your machine.
  • Cap height — the height of a capital letter in millimetres; this is what you can measure on the finished piece.
  • Align — left, centre or right.

Put text on the Engrave layer to engrave it, or on Cut to cut letters out. Cut-out letters with closed counters (the inside of O, A, B) leave loose pieces — see text modes.

Holes and slots

The Hole and Slot tools draw cut-outs. A hole must sit fully inside a cut outline, or the check reports it, because a hole outside any part would just cut a loose disc.

Hole patterns

With a hole selected, the Pattern section repeats it in a grid (Columns, Rows, Spacing X/Y) or around a circle (Count, Radius, Start angle, Rotate items). The pattern stays one editable object.
